Exxpro Specialty Elastomers

Exxpro specialty elastomers are brominated polymers derived from a copolymer of isobutylene and paramethylstyrene (PMS).

These copolymers can be prepared in a wide range of monomer ratios and molecular weights. They are subsequently brominated to varying degrees, producing different grades of Exxpro specialty elastomers.

Bromination occurs selectively on the PMS methyl group, providing a reactive benzylic bromine functionality which is the key to Exxpro specialty elastomers' vulcanization and modification versatility.

Unique attributes from:

  • Fully saturated polyisobutylene backbone
  • Highly reactive benzylic bromine functionality

Exceptional combination of:
  • Temperature resistance
  • Stability: with greater heat stability than EPDM rubbers
  • Low permeability and high damping: similar to butyl rubbers
  • Wide latitude in cure and cocure with a variety of rubbers
  • Grafting and functionalization reactions
  • Ozone/weathering resistance
